Realtors (and Community) Helping Tornado Victims in Alabama!

Mendel Elementary Donations for Tornado Victims

Wow, what a fast and furious few days since this effort was first proposed. Collections continue to come into the many drop off sites around the City of Houston and surrounding suburban areas.

Calls in to the drop off points show a very enthusiastic and generous outpouring of love along with necessary items for our friends in Alabama who are today without everything they held so dear due to the terrible storms.

Quick mention that our first truck is headed east on Monday and will be hitting the pick up locations as early as tomorrow (Katy location to be specific along with other spots).  If you are planning to give and want to make the first relief transport, please consider doing so by tomorrow. If you need more time, do not worry. We have another truck in the works.

I wanted to post the photo above sent to me from Kathleen Cox, Principal of Mendel Elementary in the Aldine School District. Her team of dedicated staff members and her students gathered up this wonderful gift of much-needed school supplies and will be dropping this off at one of our receiving stations today or tomorrow. To Principal Cox, her Staff and Students… I know your gift will be very welcome and you will put a smile on the face of many students and their teachers in the stricken areas.

Do you have something you wish to give? Help us help them!

Thank you all for everything you have done… and you know who you are:).

Why Volunteer for HAR/TAR/NAR!

February 15, 2011

While I do not exactly live and breathe real estate, you just might think I do by the amount of time I give it, both as a Realtor and as a volunteer. In fact, today I returned from our bi-annual governance meetings in Austin and I am first to admit that I am thoroughly “pooped”.

Why do I do it?  Why would I spend so much time away from my business and family on volunteer projects that at first glance do not make me money? I am often asked these questions and want to share my personal experience with you.

As a volunteer, you get to…:

  • Surround yourself with industry leaders and innovators, nationally recognized and gifted individuals known for their contributions to our industry. These are people usually who move in different circles than we do. In fact, you might rarely get to meet them, much less work with and learn from them without giving of yourself and your time to the things they love – the business of real estate.
  • Learn something new every single day. This is the best form of continuing education and is being taught by the true masters in our business.
  • Be “in-the-know” and at the forefront of industry trends and technology. Things change so fast with regard to contracts, marketing, social media, etc. that you may end up with a huge advantage over your competitors by leading the pack.
  • Network with like-minded professionals across the State and Nation, which could pay off in quality future referrals. I have been fortunate to receive referrals from many fellow Realtors with clients moving to or from my area of Katy, TX. And I also have a great resource to refer my clients when they move. A true win-win situation.
  • Serve your fellow members, building good will and a strong reputation with your peers. Plus, it really does the heart good!
  • Make an impact on your industry. You might just be the next great innovator or “influencer” and your association and its members will benefit.
  • Enjoy your business more thoroughly through building life-long relationships. Some of my best friends are Realtors who work hard and play harder. This is a group that enjoys life and they never get upset if I have to text a client or take a call. They truly understand me and my life as a busy Realtor.

There are so many more reasons for you to step up to the plate. What is stopping you? Volunteer Today!

Christi Borden Elected to Board of Directors of the Houston Association of Realtors

October 6, 2009

Christi Borden is newly elected director for HAR

HOUSTON, TX – October 5, 2009 – Christi Borden, Realtor with Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors, was elected to the Houston Association of Realtors (HAR) Board of Directors for 2010. Borden was elected for a two-year term, which is effective on January 10, 2010. She was elected in the category of largest firms.

Borden and other elected board members and officers will be installed on Wednesday, December 16, during the annual REALTOR® Celebration at the Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown Houston.

One of her goals as a director is to meet with the managers and brokers of the largest firms in the community and find out how she can support their needs. “Also, one of my main goals is to advance the level of professionalism in real estate and raise the bar in terms of training and brokerage oversight of agents,” Borden said. She is excited to represent the Katy area, one of the hottest real estate markets in Houston. She looks forward to bringing the unique concerns of the area to HAR and the leadership board.

Borden joined Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors in their Katy office five and half years ago. Enthusiastic about working in the Katy office, Borden loves the professional culture of Prudential Gary Greene. “We have an incredible work environment and team support that makes it a joy because real estate can be stressful. It’s great to have that team support behind you. I’m working with collaborators instead of competitors,” she said.

As a Certified Relocation Professional, Borden enjoys acting as the conduit for information and resources to her clients and getting them settled into the Katy community. She and her family lived abroad before she was a Realtor, and she is aware of the special stresses and needs of relocation families.

Borden is also a Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS) and is trained to work with incoming and outgoing buyers and sellers. Her other designations include GRI, ABR, TRC and ALHS. She also begins her second, three-year term on the Board of Directors of Texas Association of Realtors.

Active in her community, Borden is involved in Prudential Gary Greene’s sponsorship of Sunshine Kids. In the Katy office, Borden and other staffers are preparing the fourth annual Katy Sunshine Fest, which raised more than $30,000 in 2009. She also supports Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, and she is a supporter of the Krause Center in Katy.
